The Abakanowicz Art and Culture Collection publishes scholarly and trade books that reflect the broad interests of the Polish-born artist Magdalena Abakanowicz (1930-2017), who defied categories of nationality, materiality, and gender in her practice. The series specifically features works about under-represented subjects in the arts and on the role of art in modern and contemporary society and culture. IHME Helsinki Commission

IHME—meaning “wonder” or “miracle” in Finnish—is a contemporary art commissioning agency that unites the worlds of art and science and offers hope amid the environmental crisis through their Helsinki Commissions. The Abakanowicz Arts and Culture Charitable Foundation is funded the commissions from 2023 through 2025. In 2023, the project Chicago Boysz—While We Were Singing, They Were Dreaming invited people of all cultural backgrounds, ages, and educations to share their stories, play music and sing together, according to their abilities. In 2024, he artist duo Cooking Sections (Daniel Fernández Pascual and Alon Schwabe) examined the systems that organize the world through food with a national challenge to develop future bread recipes so as to increase understanding of the connections between soil, nutrition, and gut health. In 2025, Ukrainian artist Zhanna Kadyrova’s project The Forest to address the destruction of the Kakhovka Dam during Russia’s war of aggression, the past and future of the Zaporizhzhia region, and nature’s regenerative capacity.
